The hydrolate is the water obtained from the distillation by steam current of the branches of the Cistus ladaniferus. It contains the properties of the aqueous extract of the Jara and a soft concentration of aromatic molecules. The botanical family is Cistaceae.
The Jara is a shrub up to 2.5 m tall, its leaves, elongated and narrow, are lanceolate and greyish-green in color and are abundantly impregnated with a sticky substance, labdanum, a strongly aromatic oil that gives them a shiny appearance. and easily adheres to the hands. Its flowers are very large and with five white petals. The fruit is a globose capsule with ten cells inside.
Labdanum oil is obtained from the gummy resin of various rockroses, it was used in classical pharmacopoeia to relieve coughs, and should not be confused with laudanum, which is an alcoholic tincture of opium.
La Jara appears autochthonously and abundantly in Spain.
